They did testing up to a certain amount. I use 4 ounces of buds in 23 oz (just under 3 cups) of coconut oil. At that rate Olive oil, Coconut Oil, MCT, Avocado Oil and Clarified Butter all have about an 80% transfer rate.
With 25% material (I only use buds to make edibles, i use them for a medical condition). 120grams X .25 = 30,000 mg available.
X.8 = 24000mg. I make 300 gummies out of that (8ml gummies) coming in around 80.
You can eat just dried decarbed buds or sprinkle them into a shake (weigh it out with the same math first, dont sting yourself!) This has no transfer loss.
So Weight of product X percentage X .80 = total available THC assuming a proper decarb was done…or the transfer will be less.
i believe the oils will take more THC per oz of fat but the returns diminish.
At half the product to oil rate the MCT was a 92% transfer…Coconut oil 81% As the amount of product to fat increased the higher saturated fat fats seem to keep more of the thc bound to the fat…which makes sense.
The most i think 1 cup would hold before you get big drop off is 1 1/2 oz….1 oz to the cup will be more efficent with less transfer loss.
High quality cannabis oil is not at all cheap to produce. I’m not sure where you got this impression, but high quality oils come from buds. Buds are not cheap. A 25% return of oil from bud is a better-than-average yield. This means that for every ounce (~28g) of cannabis buds only 7g of oil can be produced. To produce an ounce of oil would require a quarter pound (112g) of buds as starting material. Then factor in the time for labor, the extraction materials (usually butane) and more time for the butane purging process and youll begin to understand where the price comes from.
Low quality black oils full of impurities (and possibly made from leaves rather than buds) can be made extremely cheaply from alcohol or acetone. Maybe these are the cheap oils you’re thinking of?
