    While a prescription for shingles vaccine is not required in the United States (and many other countries). However, people with health insurance need to check with their insurer to see if they require a doctor’s prescription.

    A prescription is not required for the Shingrix vaccine for someone who is paying for it themselves. Shingrix is available for purchase from some pharmacies and travel clinics. The vaccine is not currently publicly funded (free) in BC however some health insurance plans may cover the cost of the vaccine. The best way for a person to find out if they have coverage is to contact their insurance provider/health plan directly. They can let you know if they require a prescription.

    No at least not in the US. The only requirement is that you’ve never had shingles. And if you can then get it because I’ve had shingles and its miserable.

    The best would be to approach your nearest paediatrician in your locality.

    Among all specialties they are the one who is most informed about vaccines and their usage.
